Днес УС на БЗНС, който е част от Реформаторския блок избра  д-р Димитър Бечев, член на Гражданския съвет на РБ. Димитър Бечев е доктор по международни отношения от престижния Оксфордски университет във Великобритания и дългогодишен преподавател и изследовател към Центъра за европейски изследвания към него. Също така е бил гост-професор в Университета „Хитоцубаши” в Токио, а от 2011 г. насам преподава и в СУ. От 2010 г. д-р Бечев е директор на софийското бюро на Европейския съвет за външна политика (ЕСВП), водещ изследователски център по проблемите на европейската и международната политика с присъствие в ред държави-членки на ЕС, сред чиито членове са мнозина от най-изявени политически и обществени фигури на Стария континент. Д-р Бечев е автор на множество книги, научни статии, анализи, публикации в популярния печат по въпросите на европейската интеграция, политиката и съвременната история на Югоизточна Европа и Турция. Той е утвърден коментатор по въпросите на региона в световните медии.

В този избор БЗНС вижда навременен и адекватен отговор на настойчивите призиви от страна на българското общество за нови лица в политическия живот.
